International Students 2015The Korean Government is awarding scholarships to international students to pursue Bachelors, Masters and PhD study programs offered in 60 participating Korea higher institutions. The aim of this scholarship is to provide international students with the opportunity to conduct advanced studies at higher educational institutions in Korea, and to develop global leaders and strengthen Korea-friendly networks worldwide.

It will cover expenses such as round trip economy class ticket, tuition fees, language training fees, medical insurance, monthly stipend etc. The deadlines for scholarship application are November 2014 for undergraduate applicants and March 2015 for Graduate applicants.

About scholarship

From time to time, the Korean government awards numerous scholarships to international students to study in Korean Institution of higher learning. The aim of this scholarship is to provide students with the opportunity to conduct and advance their studies at Korean institutions of higher learning. Also to develop global leaders and strengthen Korean friendly network worldwide. A total of 455 scholarships will be awarded, 110 undergraduate scholarships and 345 postgraduate scholarships.

Eligibility

Scholarship for Undergraduate applicants:

Applicant must have graduated or will be scheduled to graduate from high school as of March 1st of the invitation.
Must be a citizen of the country to which the scholarship is offered, which also applies to the applicants’ parents
Must possess above 80% (out of 100%) cumulative grade point average (CGPA), or must be within the top 20% (out of 100%) in rank in high school.
Graduate applicants:

  1. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or its equivalent as of September 1st of the selection year.
  2. The applicant and his/her parents must hold foreign citizenships. Please note that applicants who hold Korean citizenship are not permitted to apply for this program
  3. Applicants must not be older than 40 years of age as of Sep. 1st, 2013 (born after Sep. 1st, 1973).
  4. Applicants who have enrolled in or graduated from a university in Korea are not eligible for the KGSP program. Specifically, applicants who have previously enrolled in or graduated from an undergraduate program, a master’s program, or a doctoral program in Korea cannot apply for this program.
  5. Applicants must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.64 on a 4.0 scale, 2.80 on a 4.3 scale, 2.91 on a 4.5 scale, or grades/marks/score of 80% or higher from the previously attended institution. Please note that if the applicant does not satisfy the above GPA requirements, he/she will be ineligible to apply to this program.

Fields of study

For all Bachelors, Masters and PhD programs offered in the 60 participating Korean institutions, the scholarship covers the following:

The scholarship will cover the following expenses for undergraduate study:

  1. A round-trip economy class ticket
  2. A Relocation (Settlement) Allowance of 200,000 (KRW) won upon arrival
  3. Monthly Allowance of 800,000 (KRW)
  4. Repatriation Allowance of 100,000 won upon completion of studies
  5. Language Training Fee : The full costs up to 1 year
  6. Tuition: The tuition fee up to 5 million won is exempted by the Korean
  7. Government, and if any, the tuition fee exceeding 5 million won and the entrance fee for the first semester by the host university
  8. Medical Insurance: The grantees will be provided with health insurance for major accidents and illnesses during their scholarship period.

For Graduate study, the scholarship will cover the following expenses:

  1. Monthly Allowance of 900,000 (KRW) won per month
  2. A round-trip economy class ticket
  3. A relocation (Settlement) Allowance of 200,000 won upon
  4. Language Training Fee : The full costs up to 1 year
  5. Tuition: All admission fees are waived by the host institution. The full tuition is paid by NIIED.
  6. Medical Insurance fee of 20,000 won per month (limited insurance coverage) will be provided to the university for students.
  7. Research Allowance: 210,000 won for students in human and social sciences; 240,000 won for students in natural and mechanic sciences per semester
  8. Dissertation Printing Costs of 500,000 ~ 800,000 won for the costs related to a printing
