The Nigerian Elections Debate Group (NEDG) was founded in 1999. IN 2003, the bodies merged to form the Nigerian Elections Debate Group. In 2011 however, NEDG became legally registered.
The Nigerian Elections Debate Group (NEDG) is a coalition of broadcast organizations, civil society organizations and professional groups who are committed to the deepening of democracy in Nigeria and the entrenching of an enduring democratic culture through organised television debates since the return to democratic rule in 1999. The Group since 1999 has put together the presidential debates to enable the Nigerian electorates have an opportunity to hear first hand from aspiring presidential candidates, their intentions and aspirations through an equal opportunity platform.
The Nigerian Elections Debate Group has since transformed into a broad based non-partisan, non-profit making organization with the primary mandate of organising and hosting live televised debates for all Presidential, Vice Presidential and Gubernatorial candidates in Nigeria.

NEDG Mission Statement
NEDG’s mission includes organizing and hosting live televised debates for all presidential, Vice – Presidential, Governorship and Deputy Governorship candidates in Nigeria in Nigeria.
The Debates provide the opportunity for Nigerians to assess Presidential, Vice presidential, Gubernatorial candidates to assess their programmes, policies, manifestos and the blueprint of all political parties. It is also a singular opportunity for the candidates to address millions of Nigerians in their homes. Campaign rallies cannot provide such interaction.
