Requirements For TIN Application

For Individuals

  • Duly completed TIN Application Form
  • Form of identification – National Driver’s License, International Passport, National Identity Card, Official (Staff) ID card, Certified copy of your full birth certificate
  • Passport size photo (if unemployed)
  • Contract of employment or letter from employer
  • Utility bill

For Self-Employed Persons

Not incorporated but has register the business name with the Corporate Affairs Commission:

For Incorporated Companies

  • Certificate of Incorporation forms CAC2 and CAC7
  • Your memorandum and article of association
  • Your company seal – this will be used to stamp the TIN registration forms at the FIRS office.
  • Utility Bill – PHCN or Water bills
  • A written application to the office of the FIRS chairman on your company’s letter headed paper
  • The completed TIN application form (The FIRS office gives this form in triplicates, so you are expected to fill and submit the forms). The tax application will request for the following information:
  • Name of your Company
  • Registered Office of your company
  • Business Address of your company (you may leave this blank if your registered office is same as your business address)
  • Precise Nature of your Business
  • Date of company Incorporation
  • Date the Company Commenced Business
  • Accounting Date of your company
  • Name and Address of Banker(s) (if you have opened a bank account)
  • Particulars of Major Shareholders of your company
  • Particulars of Directors of your company
  • Name and Address of Auditors for your company
  • Name and Address of Tax Representative of your company

The original copy and 2 photocopies of each document, the originals are required for sighting only, one copy will be left with the FIRS, and one copy will be stamped and signed by an FIRS official as evidence that you have made an application.

How To Apply For Tax Identification Number (TIN) In Nigeria

  1. Log onto the TIN Application portal
  2. Select and click on anyone you want to apply for (whether personal, corporate or business).
  3. Fill the application form.
  4. Follow whatever else you are asked to do.
