1. School Of Psychiatric Nursing, FNPH, Benin

This School of Psychiatric Nursing, FNPH, is located in Uselu, Benin City. It was established in the year 1969. It is approved by the  Nursing & Midwifery Council of Nigeria. This school offers lots of courses that cover areas such as psychiatric nursing experience amongst others. The services include the following:

  1. It trains nursing students on in mental health.
  2. It also trains student nurses from other nursing schools.
  3. Furthermore, it carries out research and auditing programs
  4. It provides student nurses with career counselling and guidance.
  5. Finally, it collaborates with many external institutions.

2.  Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Banarwa Kaduna

This is another mental health or psychiatric hospital in Nigeria today. This school was established in the year 1995. During its establishment, it followed the law laid down in the National Mental Health Policy of Nigeria’s Government. This school has been accredited by major professional institutions such as the West African College of Physicians and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in 2001.

3. Federal Psychiatric Hospital, Calabar

Some sources claim that this is the oldest psychiatric school in Nigeria. It is said that this school was established in the year 1903. Unfortunately, there is little to no evidence to back up this claim. The Federal Psychiatric Hospital, Calabar can be located at 123 Calabar road, by IBB Calabar, Cross River State.

4. Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Sokoto

This school can be found in Kware, Sokoto state. It is another of the psychiatric schools existent in Nigeria.

5. Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Maiduguri

The Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Maiduguri was created to attend to the mental health of the states in the North-East zone of Nigeria. It carries out lots of activities and functions. Not only does it train in mental health services, but it also carries out research services as well as rehabilitation of the mentally deranged.

6. Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Enugu

Just like the above, the federal neuro-psychiatric hospital, located in Enugu, offers mental health education, research services, and the rehabilitation of the mentally challenged.
