Furthermore, Social Intervention programs can come in different forms. They could include but not limited to

  1. provision of charity or social welfare as a means to alleviate social and economic problems of people facing financial difficulties;
  2. provision of health care;
  3. delivery of food aid or recovery missions to regions or countries negatively affected by an event;
  4. provision of education;
  5. provision of safety regulations for employment and products;
  6. adoption programs etc

Current Social Intervention Programs In Nigeria

1. Home Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSF)

The National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme is aimed at providing a free nutritional meal for public primary pupils across Nigeria to improve school enrolment and completion as well as child nutrition and health.. This program aims at


  1. Increasing school enrolment and completion.
  2. Improving child nutrition and health.
  3. Strengthening local agricultural economies by providing a school feeding market in which farmers can sell their produce.
  4. Create employment opportunities with jobs in catering, processing, farming, etc.

How To Participate

This program is currently being carried out in some rural schools in some Nigerian states. The only criterion is to a student in any of the schools where this program is being carried out.

2. N-Power

N-Power was created to solve the  challenge of youth unemployment by providing a structure for large scale and relevant work skills acquisition and development while linking its core and outcomes to fixing inadequate public services and stimulating the larger economy. The modular programmes under N-Power will ensure that each participant will learn and practice most of what is necessary to find or create work. 4. Government Economic Empowerment Program (GEEP)

GEEP (MarketMoni) is a Federal Government Social Intervention Programme (SIP) that provides interest-free loans of N10,000 to N100,000 to microenterprises, the segments of society with the greatest difficulty accessing credit. The scheme, which is executed by BoI, a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, directly impacts traders, market women, artisans, and farmers nationwide.

How To Apply

To apply for the GEEP Marketmoni,

  1. First, you must have a BVN
  2. Next, you must belong to an accredited market association or cooperative registered in your state or with the CAC.
  3. Third, your association or cooperative must indicate its interest in MarketMoni by submitting its information to BOI including its certificate of registration. You may either visit www.boi.ng/marketreg, call 0700-CALL-BOI (which is 0700-225-5264), visit any BOI office in the country, or go through your assigned State Focal Person to register your cooperative’s interest in MarketMoni.
  4. If your association or cooperative qualifies, a MarketMoni agent would be sent to your group promptly to capture your members for loan assessment.
