Explosive Devices Found in Winners Church at Owerri

Explosive Devices Found in Winners Church at Owerri – The Police on Sunday morning foiled a bomb attack at the Living Faith Church, (Winners’ Chapel), Owerri located along the Owerri-Port Harcourt express road, Imo State.

ONLINE DAILYS gathered that about six bombs earlier planted were targeted at the worshipers for the day’s service.

Speculations that one went off before the service scheduled for 8am commenced could not be verified.

The Police Public Relations officer for the Imo state Command, DSP Andrew Enwerem, confirmed that officers detonated other Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

He said the discovery of the bombs was made yesterday night by security men at the Winners’ Chapel church who were vigilant.

“When they sighted an abandoned hand bag close to the church’s gate they quickly notified the police and the bombs were detonated before it could cause any harm,” he said.

The spokesman added that bomb experts have visited other churches, warning densely populated areas to be on the alert and watch out for such suspected objects.

Enwerem confirmed that investigation into the incident has started.

Meanwhile, latest reports say six persons have been arrested in connection to the incident.

A source based in Owerri, Sunday afternoon told DailyPost that the church did not hold service at its building.

“The bomb story is true. My friend who attends Winners told me about it. But today’s service was moved to another location, Heroes Square in Owerri,” she said.
