Akon is based in the United States and currently working on a project called Lightning Africa in which he intends to power some African countries with solar energy. He has different awards and 5 Grammy nominations to his name.

Black Coffee – $60m

His full real name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo. He was born in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) but raised in the Eastern Cape province, the home City of Nelson Mandela. Black Coffee studied Music. He is South Africa’s richest musician.

Hugh Masekele.

His full real name is Hugh Ramopolo Masekela and was born on the 4th day of April 1939. He is another South Africa born singer on the list with over 43 Albums. Don Jazzy – $35m

Who doesn’t know Don Jazzy in Nigeria? He was born Michael Collins Ajereh on the 26th of November 1982. He is a native of Umuahia in Nigeria and the first Nigerian on the list of Forbes richest musicians in Africa 2017. Also, Don Jazzy is a record producer, singer, songwriter and entrepreneur.

Tinashe

The first and only woman on the Forbes Top 10 Richest African Musicians 2018. Her full real name is Tinashe Jorgenson Kachingwe and was born on the 6th of February 1993. She is the only woman on the 2017 list of richest musicians in Africa. Tinashe was born in the United States of America to Zimbabwean father and Dane mother. She began her entertainment career at the age of three and in 2017 become the 5th most bankable musicians in Africa.

Jidenna

His full real name is Jidenna Theodore Mobisson, born on the 4th of May 1985. He is a citizen of Nigeria and United States of America. He is a recording artist and record producer. Although being a Nigerian, his songs are more known in the United States where he resides.

Wizkid – $20m

Wizkid full real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun born on the 16th day of July 1990. He is another Nigerian on the list that hailed from Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria. He is a singer and a song writer. Wizkid recently Won three awards which include Top Hot 100 song, Top R&B song and Top R&B Collaboration at the just concluded billboard 2017 awards. He is the new face of African music globally.

Davido – $16m

His full name is David Adedeji Adeleke and was born on the 21st of November 1992. He was born in the United States of America to a Nigerian parent. He is a native of Ede, Osun state. Like many on this list, he is a recipient of many awards, nominations and endorsement which the Headies awards.

He was born Michael Owusu Addo on the 10th July 1988 in Tema, Ghana. He is the face of Ghana music industry right now and the only Ghanaian on the list. His foundation, the Sarkodie Foundation carries out philanthropic activities in his hometown, Ghana.

Oliver Mtukudzi.

The last on the list of top 10 richest African musicians is Oliver Tuku Mtukudzi born on the 22nd of September 1952. He hailed from Harare, Zimbabwe. He has spent over 41 years in the music industry and recorded 65 Albums during that time.
