It took Argentina the last group match to qualify for the world cup. Messi literally t Argentina to the world cup by bagging a hat-trick in the 3-1 defeat of Ecuador. Else, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal has also qualified while Russia, the host is already qualified due to hosting rights.

Spain, Germany, France, England, Belgium etc have all also booked their place in the world cup. The likes of Iran, Japan, South Korea and Saudi Arabia from the Asian continent have already qualified as well. So, who else has qualified and who stands the chance to qualify through a play-off? The play-off draw will take place on Tuesday 17 October. The first legs will be played on 9-11 November, with the second legs on 12-14 November.

Africa (Caf)

There are still 3 teams left to qualify from Africa who still have group games to play. Tunisia will face Libya and need just a point to qualify. DR Congo still have hopes of qualifying as well. Meanwhile, Ivory Coast host Morocco on 11 November seeking a win to leapfrog their visitors at the top of Group C. Finally, Senegal will need two more points to be in Russia 2018 and they face South Africa in a two-legged tie.

Intercontinental play-offs

Honduras, Peru (South America) and Australia (Asia) and New Zealand (Oceania) will face themselves in a play-off.

  • Peru v New Zealand (6-14 Nov)
  • Honduras v Australia (6-14 Nov)
